Loose threads in etymology

I had an amazing session of acupuncture and shiatsu today. The work focused in fascia release. A conversation over lunch led to an interesting revelation in etymology.

The fascia is the connective tissue that holds the muscles and internal organs in place.

Fasces is a bundle of wooden rods containing an axe head.

Fascism, from the Italian, fascio, meaning in this instance, bundles of people.

From the magic of essential anatomical structures to the ultranationalist, far right, via a primitive ancient Roman axe carried by leaders.

Language is a pretty amazing.
